PULP AND PAPER RESEARCH DIVISION |
| |
There are many chemical industries in Bangladesh. Among them paper industry is one of the most important one. The main raw material of paper production is wood. In our country bamboo and hardwood are used as the main raw material. But supply of both wood and bamboo are insufficient to meet our demand. So it needs more specific research for invention of economically feasible and profitable process of pulp, paper and board from agriculture waste. For this purpose pulp and paper research division of Dhaka Laboratory is working.
The depletion of the world fossil fuels, fluctuating prices and the increasing problem of greenhouse gas effects have strengthened interest for an alternative renewable raw material to replace petroleum products. Biomass provides a potential source of added-value chemicals. So this division has taken research initiative to utilize whole biomass based on integrated forest biorefinery in pulp mills.
Objectives
- To utilize locally available resources in the pulp, paper and allied industry
- To pursue problem oriented research work whenever needed for a particular industry.
- To utilize whole biomass in pulp mill for green chemicals, green materials, biofuel. etc.
- To take research initiative for partial fulfillment of academic degree (Master degree/ M Phil/ PhD).
- To provide analytical/ technical services on pulp, paper and allied products to the stakeholders such as importer, exporter, industry etc.
